Opened August 2014, partners chef Jeff Tunks, David Wizenberg and Gus DiMillo once again ventured to DC’s booming Penn Quarter with the opening of Penn Commons – a sleek second branch of its sister restaurant, District Commons. The chic American tavern, next to the Verizon Center, has an industrial sleek vibe that solidifies its hip, American vibe. Crossover appeal comes with popular specialties Tunks so cleverly created at District Commons, adding wit and sass. It builds a cult following with 40 beers on tap representing each ale-producing U.S. state, wines by the glass, bottle and tap, as well as 13 signature cocktails nodding to the Thirteen Original Colonies. With the resurgence of the local farmer and great American products, Tunks cultivated partnerships with specific purveyors nearby…Or just made it himself. It just takes having one common philosophy: American sensibility joined with American seasonality.
